Welcome to the 2008 Galle Literary Festival Programme.
On this page we have provided you with a daily programme summary.
If you click onto the individual event titles you will get a description of what the event is about and the participants involved.
In addition we have provided you with a PDF of the programme. We suggest you download this, print it, choose the event codes you wish to attend reverting back to the web to purchase your tickets using PayPal. The easiest way to maintain your flexibility during the festival is to buy a 1-day or 4-day festival pass and then select your feature events separately. However, you can also choose to buy tickets for individual events.
In order to assist you navigate your way through the programme it would be helpful for you to read the information below:
Wednesday, 16th January 2008 is the day of our opening ceremony and when our participants begin to gather in Galle. We also have an all day architectural tour by world renowned architect Channa Daswatte.
Thursday, 17th January 2008 through to Saturday, 19th January 2008 we have parallel programmes running in two different locations within Galle Fort;
Location #1 - The Hall de Galle, Galle Fort (just outside the old fort gate)
Location #2 - Maritime Museum, Galle Fort (Queens St)
There are 5 main event sessions of approximately one hour at each location per day.
10 Main Events per day.
Sunday, 20th January 2008 is our final day. We have a main programme with 3 events & a children's programme running at The Lighthouse Hotel.
In addition woven around the Main Programme will be a comprehensive Children’s Programme on Saturday, 19th January and Sunday, 20th January, Feature Events including Literary Lunches and Dinners cooked by international chefs, Community Initiatives and a number of Fringe Events such as photographic & art exhibitions.
Please note that this year the theme of the Galle Literary Festival 2008 is Climate Change hence some of our key sessions, community initiatives and fringe events will be used to highlight the urgent need to wake up to this global disaster and provide insights to managing our resources better.
