Rajpal Abeynayake is a writer, critic and lawyer, currently editing the Lakbimanews, a Colombo based English weekly. He has been a onetime columnist and deputy editor of The Sunday Times, Colombo and a former Editor-in-chief of The Sunday Observer. He has been adjudged Editor’s Guild columnist of the year, and received the Hector Jayewardene gold medal for address to the jury at the Law College, Colombo. He writes a satirical column and has serialised a novel in his newspaper under a nom de plume, but vows that he will write a novel under his own name when it’s a great book, not a vehicle for personal publicity. In a speech, Dr. Thiru Kandiah, former professor of English at the University of Peradeniya, called Rajpal Abeynayake ‘the foremost critic of English language writing presently working in Sri Lanka’. Rajpal Abeynayake has also been the Galle Literary Festival’s most vocal critic since its inception and comes to the Festival now to tell us what he dislikes about it.
His columns can be read at http://www.lakbimanews.lk/ and the http://sundaytimes.lk/ archives.
Rajpal Abetnayake will be featured at the following events:
